Jesse Chong is a performing songwriter based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. As a solo artist and with the eclectic Funk/Reggae group, “The Chong Band”, he’s an established leader in the Southeastern Virginia music scene.
In his teenage years Jesse started in the Norfolk hardcore scene, playing at underground events where he was introduced to ska and reggae, which resonates in his music to this day. A few years later friends introduced him to the Grateful Dead and the cornucopia of music associated with the jam scene. Jesse’s writing began to incorporate influences across a wider spectrum, and gave rise to the eclecticism that he’s known for.
Jesse’s versatility has led him to play in bands of many genres- ranging from reggae, jam, to rock and country. Jesse is compared to Ben Harper, Dave Matthews, and John Mayer. He’s opened for diverse acts such the Wailers, SOJA, Maroon 5, INXS, Derek Trucks, and Snoop Dogg. Jesse has jammed on stage with Keller Williams, Anders Osborne, and Amos Lee, and is an ubiquitous collaborator in the local music scene.
Jesse has recently published a new album titled “The Chong Band pt. 1”, available through all major digital distributors. Jesse and the Chong Band are now preparing for their second release and are planning to hit the studio in early 2018. Jesse is also currently working on single tracks to be digitally published as a solo artist. Jesse Chong and his band will be touring to promote their new albums and are available for bookings.
